I like to work on projects at the intersection of data science and engineering. At CMU, I’m working on developing machine learning algorithms for climate models and designing energy storage systems. My passion for the environment and helping the world visualize carbon emissions and clean energy is what brought me to this project!

The project relates my interests and the pandemic, which makes me want to join the group. My focus is sustainable buildings and Infrastructures. I worked on projects improving indoor environmental quality and analyzing energy consumption of buildings. The project goal is to visualize the carbon emission variation during the pandemic and raise the awareness of the use of clean energy. Since buildings are a large part of the contributors of carbon emissions, the knowledge I learned from my previous projects help me to make contributions to this project.

Yearly outings like camping, skiing, and visiting national parks have made me appreciate the environment and shown me the awful effects that climate change can have on our world. When I heard about the potential environmental benefits of stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic, I wanted to learn more and see if I could help make a difference at home. Although my academic interests lie in signal processing and engineering, I was able to apply my research and programming skills to this project.

This project is a great opportunity for me to corporate my interest and what I have learned in CMU. My focus is built environment and related energy system, which provide the basic background and understanding for this project. In the meanwhile I am interested in utilizing my knowledge to analyze current social issues, specifically at this time, the COVID-19 pandemic impacts on clean energy. I am so glad to contribute to this problem analysis and solving process.
